As an Optics R&D Engineer, you will contribute technical knowledge and improvements to the best and broadest optical simulation suite which engineers use to solve the most complex design challenges. In this Optics R&D Engineer position, you will conduct research, create prototypes, and design solutions that inform the team's decision-making. Additionally, you will evaluate our optics products to provide recommendations for improving or delivering new modeling workflows to enhance Ansys' customer experience. These activities are key to helping develop our industry-leading simulation software. Therefore, as a collaborator, you will work on various impactful projects to help maintain, advance, and accelerate Ansys products and technologies that are used around the world. The position could be a remote role or be located at an Ansys office either in the United States of America, and you will collaborate with the global Ansys Optics team. RESPONSIBILITIES Perform moderately complex development activities that may require analysis in areas including optical engineering, user experience, software design, and solver research. The activities include identifying requirements, defining specifications, designing, testing, and documenting optical modeling software modules and subsystems. Learn, understand, and implement best practices. Performs moderately complex optics solver verification, release testing, and beta support for assigned products and solvers. Research problems discovered by Quality Assurance or Ansys Customer Excellence teams (product support). Specifies solutions and the path forward to resolution. Identify, understand, and address the market requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues. Collaborate with other Ansys teams and engineers. Clearly communicate results to geographically distributed multi-disciplinary teams and technical managers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BS in Optical Sciences, Engineering, Physics, or related field with 2 years' experience or MS. 2+ years of experience in optical system design and analysis using commercial ray tracing software such as Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, Ansys Speos, FRED, etc. Working experience with programming with C++, C#, MATLAB, Python, or similar. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in software development is a plus. Experience leading and reporting on projects from the concept phase until delivery. Technical knowledge and experience with optical engineering, including optical modeling, design, fabrication, testing, and/or building of optical systems. Excellent problem-solving skills.
