The UW/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR and the Department of Global Health currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH COORDINATOR. POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to provide broad support for a variety of research projects supported by the Translational Research Subcore (TRS) of the (CFAR). The Research Coordinator (RC) plays an important role in enrolling participants for the HIV study registries and other projects, as well as collecting data or specimens for our specimen repository. They will also manage day-to-day research tasks, including clinical procedures, internal and external communications, basic data management, informed consenting, tracking participation, and scheduling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties can be categorized into four areas: Study Coordination (30%), Participant Interaction (30%), Clinical Procedures (20%), and Administrative Duties (20%)

Study Coordination (30%): • Coordinate selection of specimens from HIV Repository, in communication with our data manager, program manager and the Retrovirology Lab • Collect and enter data from research participants/medical records, ensure data collection is up to date for studies that have been assigned • Maintain confidentiality of medical/research records as well as our Access database for profiling and tracking of specimens • Maintain a calendar to track dates when research participants are due to donate blood and contact participants to remind them of these appointments. • Coordinate and facilitate new patient enrollment into clinic research registry, using EPIC, as well as Microsoft Excel and Access to prepare daily lists of patients who need to be approached at Madison and various Madison satellite clinics, track progress in REDCap • Monitor clinic registry enrollment and report on progress to research team; liaise with clinic staff who consent patients for clinic registry • Support the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures for various studies

Participant Interaction (30%) • Maintain and implement research protocols for ongoing specimen collection • Support Research Referral Nurse as needed by recruiting patients for studies • Screen potential participants and administer questionnaires • Explain the purpose and procedures of the specimen repository and other ongoing projects to prospective participants as part of informed consent • Maintain communication with appropriate study personnel and clinic staff regarding participants’ questions and concerns • Monitor adherence to study protocol and recruit patients from the Madison Clinic who have previously agreed to be contacted for research studies • Conduct active recruitment in clinic and when approved: remotely via phone or Zoom

Clinical Procedures (20%): • Perform clinical procedures as necessary, including but not limited to finger sticks • Prepare specimens for lab analysis in accordance with study protocols - label catalog, and occasionally transport specimens to the UW Retrovirology Lab or other local laboratory facilities • Process human blood specimens, including creation of plasma aliquots, dried blood spots, and dried plasma spots according to research protocols • Ship specimens per specific study protocol and applicable federal and local regulations for the shipment of hazardous biological materials

Administrative Duties (20%): • Issue and track subject payments from petty cash accounts, gift cards, or vouchers to research participants • Verify incentive cash balances and document monthly to support semi-annual reconciliation • Track participant recruitment in REDCap • Keep clinical areas stocked with supplies, ordering stock when low • Prepare consent packets and kits for studies • Attend weekly TRS and monthly study meetings • Serve as a liaison between study team, study participants and collaborators

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree • Two to three years of experience in public health, medicine, research OR equivalent education/experience

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft office suite, including Word and Excel • Experience with REDCap, Epic • Human subjects training • Experience in phlebotomy • Experience handling, processing, and transporting human biologic specimens.
