The Department of Family Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator to join their team.

The University of Washington Department of Family Medicine houses the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) region Practice and Research Network (WPRN). The network includes over 120 primary care practices that engage in research that is relevant to primary care. This opportunity is for a research coordinator who will support research efforts within the WPRN. Specifically, this position will promote health equity by expanding research study recruitment in rural communities and from historically understudied populations. These efforts align with NIH priorities to expand research in primary care settings and engage communities, practices and participants. Many of the studies take place in partnership with clinics across the 5 state region by testing and implementing evidence-based treatments in primary care, improving quality improvement capacity within practices and leveraging electronic health records to improve health. The research coordinator will contribute to the research agenda of two family physician investigators, Dr. Sebastian Tong, who leads the PRIME Lab that focuses on chronic pain, substance use and loneliness and Dr. Allison Cole, whose work focuses on cancer prevention in primary care.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES The position involves coordinating and supporting the research and operational functions for several research studies. Specific complexities include:

  • Following study protocols and investigative procedures to accomplish research goals under the guidance of a senior research coordinator and tracking and monitoring progress for multiple projects simultaneously

  • Communicating directly with participants in a professional and personable manner through multiple media and tracking participant progress throughout the research cycle: recruitment, screening, consent and data collection

  • Designing participant outreach materials for diverse sets of audiences and interacting with large numbers of participants throughout the course of a study

  • Liaising with clinical sites and collaborating institutions to facilitate participant recruitment, collect data, meet research milestones and fulfill reporting requirements

  • Coordinating administrative planning with faculty and senior research coordinators leading projects, e.g., scheduling and coordinating meetings with stakeholders, taking notes, and drafting communications

  • Providing support to faculty, staff and trainees (including postdocs, residents and medical students) across multiple domains: post-award by assisting with submitting for approvals for general purchases and payment of research participants

  • Drafting portions of new IRB applications for additional grants and coordinating timely submission of materials with senior team members

  • Providing support for presentations, and publications by drafting text; creating tables, figures, and charts; conducting literature reviews and providing appropriate referencing to existing literature
