The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for an hourly intermittent Research Nurse to join their team.

The Research Nurse (payroll title: Registered Nurse 1 - Research (NE H NI SEIU 1199NW Res/HH)) implements telephone and internet-based stress management intervention in a funded clinical trial with patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Perform nursing services and research work in support of clinical research. Work is in cardiology, implementing a stress management telephone protocol with patients with implanted cardioverter defibrillators (ICD)s. Under supervision and following existing protocol, obtain data through interviewing subjects/patients, review and extract data from medical records, discuss study using telephone and internet.

DUTIES/TASKS • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients with an ICD. • Collect, verify and compile information in support of research. • Record research data in conjunction with other professionals on the research team; interview subjects; review medical records. • Coordinate and deliver all aspects of the patient telephone stress management intervention. • Explain research protocol to participants; respond to patient inquiries regarding protocol; schedule patient participation; ensure compliance with research protocol. • Assess patient reactions to stress management intervention; identify potential adverse reactions. • Perform related research duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing and one year of experience as a registered nurse. • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS • Clinical experience in cardiology nursing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT • After initial training on the protocol, the intervention can be delivered by telephone, internet, web-based computing. There is no direct interaction with patients that is required. • The shift will vary, from 0 to up to 20 hours/week; the average is estimated to be 4-6 hours/week. The length of the position is 1-2 years, depending on how long it takes to recruit the number of study subjects needed.
