The UW Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv) to join a large NIH-funded study called Environmental Influences on Children Health Outcomes (ECHO) Yakima Valley, led by Dr. Catherine Karr. The overall aim of this study is to determine how the environment can affect children’s growth and development. We are recruiting new study participants in pregnancy and conducting study visits from the prenatal period through child age 5. The ECHO Yakima Valley study has staff and faculty based in Yakima and Seattle. Position would not be expected to travel to Seattle. Hours are mainly weekdays, but occasional weekend and evening hours would be requested.

The Research Study Coordinator will work under the general direction of the ECHO Field Manager, Cohort Manager, and/or Principal Investigator (PI). Their main responsibilities include recruitment of new participants, data collection at in-person study visits according to existing study protocols, and data entry tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Data and Specimen Collection (55%) • Utilize multiple online platforms for participant tracking and data collection • Provide support to the research team conducting study visits in the Yakima office or participant’s home. This includes preparing and cleaning exam rooms, explaining procedures to participant, responding to participant questions and concerns, and assisting in study procedures • Maintain adherence to research protocols including completing trainings along with periodic updates • Document and implement procedures for audits to assure protocol compliance and data quality • Assist in simple specimen collection and tracking (e.g., hair and saliva) • Take measurements of participants, including height and weight

Recruitment (35%) • Assist with study recruitment and scheduling through various communication methods, including telephone, text messages, email, and mailings • Monitor and document active referrals

Other (10%) • Attend regular team meetings, in person and online • Represent the study at local health fairs or events on occasion • Contribute to grant progress report writing, data summaries and participate and contribute to peer review publications and other scientific output

The Research Study Coordinator will be required to work independently, use problem solving skills, manage time and multi-task effectively to contribute to successful execution of the project’s deliverables.

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working with pregnant people, children, and their families; be skilled at working with a team; and have a strong interest in research.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject

OR

equivalent education/experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Experience in research, clinical practice, health care, or a related field/setting. • Bilingual, English and Spanish (speaking, writing, and reading) • Willingness to travel within Yakima County • Proficient in Microsoft 365 products, familiar with remote meeting software and calendaring software

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Maternal and/or child health experience. • Experience with human subjects research • Knowledge or experience with REDCap • Flexibility and adaptability to change
