UW Continuum College has an exciting opportunity for a Senior SQL Server Developer! About the position
This position works within a team to provide senior-level systems design, development, programming, implementation, consultation, maintenance, and support for core administrative applications including curriculum management, registration, grading, financial management, budgeting, and payroll, as well as self-service tools for students, instructors, and other non-administrative users in these areas.

The Senior SQL Server Developer will play a major role in the development and maintenance of application systems and technologies that support the educational mission of University of Washington Continuum College.
The developer plays a key role in designing and developing robust, secure, sustainable and scalable applications, and needs an understanding of university business processes and existing university technology solutions. The developer will also show initiative and flexibility to take on broader responsibilities such as business analysis and project management when necessary, as well as develop technical estimates, manage workload toward agreed upon milestones, and negotiate priorities in a deadline-driven environment. The Senior SQL Server Developer is also able to provide technical oversight on projects appropriate to job skills and to mentor staff less familiar with our tools and environments.
The Senior SQL Server Developer will primarily use Microsoft SQL Server, classic ASP, ASP.NET MVC, and Microsoft middleware technologies, but may also use SSIS and MuleSoft to develop integrations with web services, APIs, and other databases, including those connected to Workday, Salesforce, Canvas, and the Umbraco Kentico CMS platform.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement new features into existing internal- and external-facing applications and implement new applications.
Design or modify database tables, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers in SQL Server, including stored procedures and functions that contain a significant amount of business logic in order to interact with internal- and external-facing applications (usually web-based).
Work with business users and business analysts to gather requirements for the design, creation, and implementation of changes to existing database systems or new systems.
Design SSIS/ETL packages to load and transform data to and from various source and destination systems in specified formats (e.g., SQL Server databases, web services, flat files, and XML).
Communicate with business users to identify, document, and track production issues and work with other developers to solve these issues in a timely manner.
Work with other development team members to determine technical requirements, as well as specifications for projects and features needed to satisfy business requirements.
Design and implement basic web interfaces to allow business users to interact with implemented database solutions.
Perform rigorous quality assurance testing through all phases of software development to ensure delivery of high-quality products.
Create support documentation and cross-train other development team members on implemented processes so that they can support these solutions.Other responsibilities
Tune performance of database queries and stored procedures.
Investigate and handle complaints related to application performance.
Work with other developers to determine the amount of effort required for completing projects.
Work with project managers to plan project timelines.
Exercise technical and organizational leadership to initiate, carry out, and complete successful development and maintenance projects.
Document technical specifications.
Exercise and adhere to team coding standards and development/validation practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable technical deliverables.
Adhere and contribute to system configuration and deployment practices and standards.
Back up the other team members or provide support as projects require additional development resources. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS We will consider a variety of personal and professional experiences; however, a successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in most areas of responsibility outlined above. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or related experience and 4+ years of experience Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Strong SQL Server database programming experience, including complex stored procedure, view, and trigger creation, query optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning.
Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
Understanding of SQL Server administrative features, including object-level permissions, security roles, and schemas.
Understanding of best practices relating to SQL Server security and exploit prevention.
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across layers of an application.
Significant experience and knowledge in business and systems analysis, design, project lifecycle methodology, system integration, implementation, and deployment.
Extensive experience with requirements gathering and analysis, including direct work with end-users or customers.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and ability to work with personnel of various levels of technical background.
Experience with formal software engineering practices (version control, validation, deployment, maintenance).
