Amazon Software Development Engineer, Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) in Seattle, Washington

Description

Ready to revolutionize the integrated development environment (IDE) experience for the tens of thousands of world-class developers at Amazon? Join our IDE Team within the Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) organization and take a leading role in making coding at Amazon rapid and delightful!

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join us and help design, ship, and operate IDE developer tools that make coding at Amazon rapid and delightful. You'll be instrumental in empowering our developers to leverage the full potential of their chosen IDE, whether it's IntelliJ, VSCode, or any other popular option. You will have the opportunity to participate in open-source development, working with the VS Code development team and you'll foster a strong collaborative relationship with JetBrains, leveraging their solutions to optimize IntelliJ-based IDEs for Amazon builders' needs. The solutions you build will reach every Amazon builder, becoming an integral part of their day-to-day workflow, empowering them to write software with industry-leading efficiency and delight.

Key job responsibilities

Are you a software engineer who thinks a lot about the development experience, for yourself and others? Have you been a champion for creating better tools for your team?

You will play a key role on a team as it designs, builds, ships, and operates new and existing developer tools products, by:

  • Leading the development of technically ambiguous projects related to IDE integration with internal tools, language-specific support, and package manager connection to internal software repositories.

  • Collaborating with open-source and third-party vendors, such as VS Code and JetBrains.

  • Engaging with developers within Amazon to build IDE support exceeding the expectations of Amazon builders.

  • Delivering high-quality technical solutions that delight our builders.

  • Demonstrating good taste in developer experience and tooling design through the SDLC.

  • Partnering with your manager and engineering leads to influence technical architecture and product roadmaps.

  • Setting a high bar of technical and operational excellence, and empower your colleagues to continuously meet and raise the bar.

A day in the life

Your customers are the tens of thousands of software engineers across Amazon, who are building AWS, Amazon.com, Twitch, Alexa, IMDB, and more. You'll be a hands-on engineer, building and launching new features and extensions for popular IDEs like IntelliJ and Visual Studio Code. Your work will focus on integrating these IDEs seamlessly with Amazon's internal tools and services, while also contributing to the open-source communities surrounding these IDEs. By collaborating with the VS Code and JetBrains teams, you'll create an IDE experience that makes software development at Amazon rapid and delightful, empowering every Amazon builder in their day-to-day work.

About the team

The IDE Team is part of the Builder Accelerator (BAX) group, a polyglot engineering team with multiple products, from high-availability services to tools that run on developers' workstations. BAX adapts to the biggest opportunities to make a positive impact on Amazon developers' ability to "get into flow": where they can code their ideas and see them working, without getting interrupted or mucking with their tools.

If you're passionate about improving the software development experience for everyone across Amazon, we'd love to chat and explore if we're a good match. Join us in shaping the future of IDEs at Amazon!
