The Product Selections team is looking for an amazing Software Development Manager to lead the team into the future. The Product Selections team is focused on continuously improving the ability for Amazon tech teams to make selections from the enormous Amazon catalog at scale. The services they own enable promotions to be surfaced to shoppers quickly, and are also used by teams throughout Amazon who need to run fast catalog operations for other use cases. Product Selections strives to raise the bar on performance, efficiency, and resilience of their platform services, and is a key component in Amazon Stores technology.

As the Product Selections Software Development Manager, you will own and influence the architecture and technical strategy of the team. You will interact with business and technical leaders, gather customer feedback, and build out your roadmap. You will drive engineering best practices, set standards for operational excellence, and drive continuous improvement. You will be in charge of an engineering team and be expected to hire and grow software development engineers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build a high performance team while maintaining a high bar for quality.

  • Hire, coach, and mentor colleagues; build a strong cross-functional organization and care about developing people.

  • Create, execute product/technical roadmaps and project plans

  • Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to senior leadership

  • Work closely with senior engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach

  • Foster culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics

  • Own all operational metrics and support

  • Set clear, measurable quality goals for your organization in a data-led way

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
