Amazon Sr. Technical Program Manager, Search Marketing in Seattle, Washington

Amazon’s Automated Marketing and Events organization is building the Internet’s largest-scale Search Marketing systems. The team is responsible for a number of business-critical systems that generates, target, measures and optimizes hundreds of millions of search engine ad placements and organic search listings (SERPs). We apply best-in-class digital marketing optimization techniques like search engine optimization (SEO), landing page optimization (LPO), content optimization to enhance Amazon customer shopping journeys and effectively target them with optimized landing page experiences that satisfy their search intent. We routinely solve challenges related to large-scale distributed services, big data systems and web search services. We build keyword management, data infrastructure, business performance management and landing page experimentation systems that maximize returns through discovery of new keywords and products, landing page targeting efficiency and customer experience improvement opportunities. Cutting edge technology and algorithms including data mining, statistical modeling, and machine learning are the core of our business. Search Marketing drives a large portion of Amazon’s business, and represents a unique opportunity to drive impact on the company’s bottom line. With essentially full ownership of our own product road map, there is a large R&D component to our work, and strong engineering skills together with sound business understanding and an appetite for innovation are highly valued.

We are looking for a Sr. Technical Program Manager who is passionate to improve the customer experience and interactions with ads on external partners/vendors, and is motivated by the prospects of multi-million dollar business returns and large-scale end-customer impact. Reinvent the customer experience and accelerate Ad supply growth by launching new products, ad formats, automated tools for Ad experimentation, Retail CX enhancements, incorporating ML/LLM into program development to accelerate velocity, and improve measurement and ad relevancy. You will get to manage complex programs that spans across multiple science/engineering teams and organizational boundaries. You will engage with many different teams in order to remove friction during planning and delivery along with having full ownership of your program roadmap. From the inception of an idea, you are involved in gathering requirements, shaping the vision, and setting the team up for successful delivery. As a Sr TPM you are also a key decision maker in the team. You will establish launch timelines, make decisions to optimize trade-offs, and manage expectations with external stakeholders. The scope and scale of our work often comes with a high degree of ambiguity. You will need to balance customer needs with technical constraints and anticipate the bottlenecks that may emerge along the way. You will partner with product management and technical leadership to identify company-wide opportunities for search advertising growth, improving products, identify new areas of investment and work to align other group's engineering roadmaps to deliver on these opportunities and optimize delivery outcomes. As a technical leader, you will influence strategy and outcomes across different Amazon organizations.

Key job responsibilities

  • Create, prioritize, communicate, and execute roadmaps, project plans across organizations.

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership throughout program life cycles, influence software engineers best practices.

  • Demonstrate a high degree of ownership for every project work with business leaders and product managers to define team's strategical plans, program vision and requirements.

  • Partner with advertising stakeholders to deliver shared goals across multiple teams.

  • Provide concise written and verbal communication on all aspects of your programs.

  • Escalate trends through continuous monitoring and reporting to management. Support business and stakeholders by seeking out opportunities to simplify and automate metrics and reporting.

  • Deliver results working in an ambiguous environment by driving alignment, resolving roadblocks, and consistently building a path to green across product, engineering, program, and customers.

  • Establish vision for programs and translate them into products that customers will love using. You will be deeply familiar with the pain points of several distinct customers and excel at designing solutions that enable all customers to succeed.

The ideal candidate for this role is a program leader who is a tech visionary, values autonomy, learns enthusiastically, able to work across cross-functional teams, and possess a strong ability to communicate, influence and earn the trust of software engineers, technical and business leadership. As a senior program leader you will optimize customer shopping experience for tens of millions of user queries that happen daily over search engines. Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of software development experience

  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
