Blue Origin LLC Systems Engineer Principal, Structures and Mechanisms - Lunar Transportation in Seattle, Washington

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The Structures and Mechanisms (S&M) Systems Engineer (SE) serves in a multi-disciplinary function to own requirements and verification at the subsystem level and manage subsystem level analyses, like mass properties and system safety. This role will work closely with both vehicle systems engineers and component responsible engineers to architect the subsystem level (L4) requirements and verification plan and to ensure proper linkage between the higher and lower-level requirements. Additionally, this role will engage down into the subsystem to own mass properties management, including time history tracking and threat and opportunities identification. The subsystem SE also serves not just an information aggregator, but will also be required to engage in high level design and/or analysis activity to support rapid trade study and decision closure. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. This includes coordinating necessary V&V activities with cross-function business units and communicating status across relevant stakeholders. Implement L5 requirements in requirements management software applications. Manage mass properties across a subset of inter-related structures and mechanisms products. This includes creating regular mass update workflows across the subsystem, creating traceable records for mass changes relative to a baseline, managing mass growth allowance, and identifying and tracking mass threats and opportunities. This also involves communicating subsystem mass information to the vehicle systems engineering team, managing subsystem mass allocations, and participating in mass boards. Help organize and execute subsystem level design reviews through artifact creation, artifact release, and product responsible engineer accountability. Perform subsystem safety analyses, including functional hazard analysis, failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis, and fault tree analysis, in coordination with program system safety and system autonomy representatives. Develop systems engineering communication artifacts, include functional block diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams. Coordinate with mission operations on regarding structures and mechanisms flight telemetry requirements, instrumentation, data rates, and real time displays. Engage in structures and mechanisms research, design, or analysis tasks to support rapid trade studies and decision making. Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles.
