Job Summary:
The Children’s Place is looking for an experienced professional to drive the development and evolution of the chemical management strategy. The individual will collaborate with global sourcing counterparts, vendors, membership groups and civil society organizations to ensure that business goals and objectives are met.
Reporting directly to the Director, Environment & Social Responsibility, this position is based in Secaucus, NJ, and will lead strategy, planning and execution of all chemical management activities with a clear vision and goals that align with TCP’s overarching environmental strategy.
Responsibilities:
Key Accountabilities:
Effectively partners with internal and external organizations globally to realize the organization’s commitment to monitor and minimize the usage of restricted substances both in our finished goods and during manufacturing
Works with Product Integrity and Legal teams to ensure and maintain compliance with all chemical regulatory requirements
Develops and executes chemical management policies, tools and methodologies, including TCP’s Restricted Substance List (RSL) and Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL)
Drives communication of RSL and MRSL requirements throughout the supply chain
In partnership with Product Integrity and Legal teams, builds an expanded risk matrix for product testing to ensure RSL compliance for high risk vendors and products
Enhances and maintains database of test results for analysis and continuous improvement
Reviews and seeks resolution of chemical and wastewater testing failures
Manages 3rd party service providers for RSL and MRSL on-site audits, root cause analysis and follow-up on corrective action
Connects cross-functionally with other teams to share product testing results, learning and updates
Identifies areas of value-added opportunities around chemicals and wastewater for improvement in the global supply chain
Provides oversight and training to suppliers to support capacity building, technical knowledge and thought leadership in chemical and wastewater management performance
Develops and leads engagement strategy with vendors and mills around preferred chemical use in manufacturing
Builds relationships and collaborates effectively with external stakeholders such as AFIRM Group and ZDHC to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement Education, Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or related disciplines
Strong chemistry background in the apparel and footwear industry
5+ years of experience in product safety audit, compliance, product testing, or inspection for product
Good understanding of global chemical regulations and manufacturing practices
An unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity
Excellent communication skills; great command of both verbal and written English skills
Demonstrated experience in strategy development, project management and program implementation
High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, research / reporting / analysis tools
Willing to travel (once a month) Competencies:
