UPMC Laboratory Support Technician in Seneca, Pennsylvania

This role requires a candidate who is available to work any day of the week during various shifts. We strive to accommodate team members’ shift preferences whenever possible. Additionally, this position involves working every other weekend and two holidays each year. We’re seeking someone passionate about delivering exceptional experiences for our patients. Responsibilities:

  • Answers inquiries about specimen status, investigates report dispositions, and directs callers to additional resources as needed.

  • Receives, sorts, prepares, and delivers testing-ready specimens to designated work areas efficiently.

  • Demonstrates a service-oriented approach by conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all interactions.

  • Performs routine and basic maintenance on instruments following established protocols and records temperatures when required.

  • Assists in restocking supplies to maintain optimal inventory levels and keeps storage areas organized for room temperature, refrigerated, and frozen supplies.

  • Prepares and replenishes instrument reagents and consumables as needed to ensure smooth operations.

  • Conducts QA/QC procedures as assigned to maintain high standards of laboratory practices.

  • Cleans and decontaminates the work area, ensuring a neat environment and proper maintenance of glassware, including testing for residue removal.

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND at least 2yrs experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) required in a clinical lab,

  • OR Associate degree (with biology and chemistry courses) and at least 1yr of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab,

  • OR Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification and 1yr of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab,

  • OR Successful completion of a 50wk U.S. military medical laboratory training course,

  • OR B.S. degree from an accredited institution with a major in a biological or clinical laboratory science

  • OR currently enrolled in an MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent training program, with 3 yrs college credits

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Medical Laboratory Assistant MLA (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.

Valid driver's license if one is departmentally required.
