UPMC Phlebotomist in Seneca, Pennsylvania

UPMC is excited to invite you to apply for the position of Phlebotomist! This casual role offers variable shifts, including 4:30AM - 1PM, 8AM - 4:30PM, 10:30AM - 7PM, and 12:30PM - 9PM. Availability for 7 days a week maybe required, along with every other weekend and two holidays each year. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in phlebotomy across a variety of settings. Responsibilities:

  • Interacts courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers, responding promptly to telephone inquiries.

  • Follows proper patient identification procedures to procure blood specimens via venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick.

  • Instructs patients on self-collection procedures for laboratory specimens, including samples beyond blood when necessary.

  • Demonstrates dependability and independent judgment by prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs and accepting appropriate authority.

  • Performs specimen collection at off-site locations and transports specimens safely to the laboratory, adhering to established safety procedures.

  • Complies with laboratory and hospital policies, including quality control, safety protocols, hand hygiene, and isolation precautions.

  • Performs clerical duties and utilizes computer systems to accurately enter demographic information, test orders, and manage test records while ensuring sample identity.

  • Trains and orients new employees, students, and residents as assigned, and reports any unusual incidents to technical staff or supervisory personnel.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

  • Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy

  • Medical Assistant experience

  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

Act 31 is required within 90 days of hire/transfer

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

  • OAPSA
