UPMC Specimen Processor in Seneca, Pennsylvania

UPMC Northwest is excited to consider your application to join our team as a casual Specimen Processor serving variable 1st and 2nd shift! We welcome you to join our team of laboratory professionals in a life-changing environment!

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely processing of specimens.

  • Investigate and resolve any errors or specimen-related issues promptly; escalate when necessary. Complete quality forms for unacceptable specimens or errors.

  • Perform centrifugation to separate specimens; label aliquot tubes appropriately and store samples according to policy.

  • Enter specimen receive time accurately into the computer system.

  • Answer telephone inquiries regarding proper specimen collection, results, and normal ranges.

  • Verify patient specimens (e.g., blood, urine) against requisitions or labels to ensure accuracy; document corrections as needed.

  • Prepare, package, and send specimens to external locations as required.

  • Receive, sort, and prioritize all specimens according to laboratory policies. Share specimens as needed and promptly notify supervisors of any issues or requests.

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment

  • Knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems

  • Experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center preferred.

  • Effectively communicate with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers (as well as co-workers) both by telephone and in person.
