The role you’ll contribute:
The Hyperbaric Tech is accountable for safe, smooth and efficient operation of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) unit. S/he is responsible for treatment scheduling, safety, patient care coordination, and quality management of HBOT patients. S/he functions as HBOT safety coordinator and accepts accountability for keeping current with Hyperbaric standards and following of all regulatory standards, established policies, protocols and procedures; and utilizes other pertinent references as guidelines for clinical practice.
The Hyperbaric Tech is responsible to the Wound and Hyperbaric Medical Director and the Program Director. S/he in under direct supervision of the Program Director and/or Clinic Manager and works in close collaboration with hyperbaric physicians and RN’s.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
· Understands and provides appropriate care for adult and geriatric patients with appropriate indications for HBOT. Able to assist with Physician H&P, document assessments for approved indications and contraindications and educate patient on expectations of therapy as well as potential complications and/or side effects.
· Demonstrates competence in patient care immediately before, during and after an HBO treatment including vital signs, blood sugars, pressurization, and basic wound care with appropriate documentation per policies and protocols.
· Demonstrates knowledge of therapy, protocols and potential complications or side effects of therapy and the ability to monitor patients for symptoms of oxygen intolerance, claustrophobia, hypoglycemic reactions, decompression sickness or other unexpected condition; recognize symptoms and intervene appropriately.
· Works closely with management and safety committee to operate, maintain and ensure safety of the Hyperbaric facility, all associated systems and equipment. Attends SMMC safety meetings, CHS conference calls and reviews on all memos to ensure the department P&P are current.
· Actively participate in departmental quality improvement activities including patient centered quality management measures in care and documentation as well as departmental initiatives.
· Provides routine preventive maintenance and cleaning of the chambers and equipment and able to recognize need for emergency maintenance and to work with resources to provide. Keeps up documentation logs.
· Utilize efficient and effective communication with partners outside the departments who assist with care of the wound patients e.g. home care providers, family members, referring and consulting physicians
· Demonstrates basic knowledge of CMS requirements for HBO therapy coverage; medical necessity and pre-certifications required for third party payors.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Associate’s Degree or Graduate of a Technical School
· No Previous Experience is Required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
· Completion of Primary Hyperbaric Training Course and ability to obtain CHT (within 12 months of hire) Or
· Kansas Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) Or Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Or Certified Hyperbaric Tech (CHT) Or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Or Paramedic Or Physical Therapy Assistant Or Certified Nursing Assistant
