CRAFTED PLASTICS INC Experienced Extrusion Technician in SHEBOYGAN, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Experience with custom profiles and tubing extrusion, co-extrusion, and tri-extrusion running over air, through water baths, with vacuum chambers, and with calibration. Must be proficient with the set-up, start-up, and tear down of the extruder and various types of downstream equipment. Tends to extrusion machines measuring parts and making necessary adjustments, and packing parts. Must be familiar with setting-up, starting-up, and running a wide variety of thermoplastic materials using virgin or regrind by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following, other duties may be assigned. Must know how to set up, start up, and run all extrusions with a minimal amount of scrap generated while producing a high degree of quality products. Should be able to assist any operator in all aspects of extrusion. Installs feed \"screw\" and attaches dies, gate adapters to extruder; vacuum pumps (for tubing), air and water hoses, templates, breaker plates, blocks, guides, heat guns, fans, cutters, etc. downline. Sets temperatures, screw and line speed on extruder as indicated on run card. Starts machine when proper temperatures are reached. As first extruded material emerges from die, \"pulls\" material with pliers, etc. and feeds through various stages of downline equipment, requiring planned positioning of equipment to accommodate initial scrap as well as rapid response to unforeseen conditions such as initial shape of extrusion. Observes operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction. Adjusts initial temperature and speed settings of extruder and puller based on dimensions and experience. Positions or repositions heat, cooling, guides, etc. to bring extrusion profile, finish, and color increasingly close to print or sample piece specifications. Measures workpiece dimensions to refine accuracy of overall operation to tolerances set by customer, allowing for shrinkage as part cools. Checks for specified quality and tolerances using caliper and other measuring devices; sets final cutting and arranges for counting and packaging of finished pieces at end of line. Determines number of boxes required of finished product keeping in mind safe weight limits set by customers or carriers. Checks for correct shipping labels. May turn operation over to less skilled operator. Calculates if additional raw material is required and adds to hopper as needed or informs hopper filler. Monitors quality of run periodically. Records quality assurance (QA) data at a minimum every hour. Completes run card on new runs. Moves finished product using hand truck or pallet jack. Wraps and bands pallets of finished product as appropriate. Upon completion of run, removes dies, fixtures, etc., cleans machine in preparation for next run. Assists or trains other machine operators with set-ups, start-ups, teardowns, or trouble-shooting problems. Counts, packages, boxes, coils, and transports finished workpieces. Maintains accurate log of raw materials used, scrap, and finished product. Grinds, packs and labels scrap material for reuse. May function as Group Leader, assisting Shift Supervisor with primary and secondary production problems. As such, assists less experienced operators with such matters as selection of optimum feed screw, blocks, downstream equipment; setting of temperatures and speed of extruder and puller; pulling initial material, mixing raw materials; setting up calibration, vacuum for tubing runs; checks QA data and material records of operators; assists secondary operators with set ups; assists supervisor with trouble shooting; organizes materials for next shift, etc. Moves bulk materials using forklift truck. Observes all safety procedures. Maintains cleanliness of work area during the shift and before s Press control buttons to activate machinery and equipment. Ability to speak effectively to fellow employees. Must have experience setting-up, starting-up, & tearing down extruded plastic profiles and tubing using calibration, vacuum, water, or air. Must have 2-3 years\' experience in plastic extrusion; performing set-ups, start-ups, & teardowns of the extruder and other equipment on extrusion line. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Mechanical aptitude; use of hand tools and measuring devices such as tape measure, calipers, and gauges. Considerable hand and finger dexterity.
