Job description

We are looking for an individual with experience in the fine art of wood working to build finished desks and other specials for the school furniture industry. Must have experience working with pressure laminates, veneer, solid surfaces, TFL.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews production list daily with Plant Manager to prioritize work schedule,
  • Produces or assembles custom products including tables, cabinets and desks reflecting detailed workmanship upon completion.
  • Verifies dimensions or checks the quality or fit of pieces to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Matches materials for color, grain or texture, giving attention to knots or other features of the wood.
  • Establishes the specifications of products to be constructed or repaired and develops the method of operations for shaping or assembling parts, based on blueprints, drawings, diagrams or oral or written instructions.
  • Sets up or operates table saws, chop miter saw, hand routers, boring machine, panel saws or other wood working tools to cut and shape wood stock.
  • Measures and marks dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock prior to cutting, following blueprints, to ensure a tight fit and quality product.
  • May make jigs to attach parts or subassemblies together to form completed units, using glue, dowels, nails, screws or clamps.
  • Adjusts component parts to ensure proper form, fit, function and dimension. Seeks assistance from Engineering, CNC Programming and Plant Manager for major assembly issues.
  • Trims, sands or scrapes surfaces or joints to prepare articles for finishing.
  • Assists in the direction and training of new employees in the assembly/cabinetmaking department.
  • Works closely with Engineering to develop proper assembly procedures for new or modified products.
  • May be involved in field installations.
  • Follows safety rules and safe work habits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Plant Manager.
