JOB SUMMARY

Provides direct and indirect patient care in ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a registered nurse. Assist physicians during operative and invasive GI procedures. Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain a steady level of productivity. Monitors PAR levels of all endoscopy equipment and supplies. Cleans, decontaminates, high level disinfection and sterilizes endoscopy equipment by GI lab standards. Performs routine and duties in accordance with the standards of practice of the society of GI assistants and hospital policy and procedures. Participants in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Performs C.N.A duties as delegated. Takes on-call status as assigned to Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reprocesses equipment and instruments according to GI/ OR standards and in a timely manner.

  • Prepares and cleans GI Lab before and after cases; and restocks supplies when needed.

  • Takes on-call status as assigned in the GI Lab or as needed.

  • Makes decisions reflecting of facts and good judgment within the technician’s scope of practice.

  • Takes ownership of complaints by patients, staff and internal customers and follows through to a resolution.

  • Demonstrates orientation toward excellent customer service by conducting daily activities, communications and interactions in a cooperative positive and professional manner and inspires colleagues to do the same.

  • Performs services requiring technical or manual skills under the direction on the RN.

  • Demonstrates competence in care of specimens and accurately handles specimens at all times.

  • Manages and operates departmental equipment and supplies safely and correctly.

  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers.

  • Knowledge of procedures and related equipment.

  • Performs other duties as delegated by license professional

  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.

  • Current BLS certification, required.

  • Minimum of one year work related experience.

  • Additional Skills

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Demonstrated effective organizational skill.

  • Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
