Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in disease intervention and prevention activities.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Experience in investigatory work, social services, nursing, or in medical laboratory technician or medical laboratory assistant work will substitute for the required college training on the basis of 30 semester hours for one year of experience.

Graduate training in epidemiology, public health, any of the biological sciences, or nursing will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester hours for one year of experience.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To supervise a group of Disease Intervention Specialists responsible for case finding in the conduct of a disease intervention or prevention program or to manage a small staff (less than six) for a region.

Level of Work:

Supervisor.

Supervision Received:

Broad review from a Disease Intervention Specialist 5 or Regional Administrator/Medical Director.

Supervision Exercised:

Direct-line over lower-level Disease Intervention Specialists (at least two).

Location of Work:

Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Disease Intervention Specialists 3 by the presence of direct line supervisory responsibility.

Differs from Disease Intervention Specialist 5 by absence of supervision of a regional disease intervention and prevention program with a staff of six or more Disease Intervention Specialists.

Examples of Work

Supervises a unit of Disease Intervention Specialists.

Plans and supervises disease intervention and prevention objectives of subordinates and assumes responsibility for attainment.

Reviews epidemiologic data (e.g. performance objectives, evaluation reports and disease chain studies) of subordinates; identifies deficiencies; sets new directions, priorities, and assignments on a continuous basis.

Provides medical/epidemiologic orientation to subordinates and on-going training and critiques of individual performance.

Reviews disease intervention case reports from subordinates for accuracy and process.
