2 Fiber Optic Engineering Technician ll Purpose: Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for an Engineering Technician ll who will be a key support to assembling, installing equipment or parts requiring basic mechanical, electrical, wiring, soldering, or connecting skills or performing computer maintenance and operations. This position is located in Norfolk, VA, and on shipyards throughout the Hampton Roads area. Pay is 29.00-31.00 hourly. Job Description: Perform installation/removal/upgrades for electrical/electronic/IC/C4I tasks such as: wiring of fiber and copper terminal boxes, testing, and verifying connections, performing continuity and resistance checks on cables, testing and troubleshooting. Perform system testing to evaluate performance and functionality. Use drawings, technical manuals, instructions, standards, and specifications to perform fiber optic and system installation, removal, and upgrade activities. Use optical test equipment along with customer wiring drawings and NAVSEA Standard items for performing in-process and final test of installed and terminated cabling assemblies. Understand cableway improvement and inspections. May perform fire watch and confined space duties. Perform and can demonstrate specific trade skills gained through school or proven experience. Qualifications: Must have High school or equivalent. 3 to 7 YRS of experience as a Trades and Engineering Technician I. Have Cableway Improvement Certification, Multi-Pin Connector Certification. Must have a NAVSEA fiber optic certification or ability to quickly certify in fiber optic connectorization and inspection of shipboard cable assemblies per Navy Standard Item 009-73 and MIL-STD-2042. Must have a thorough knowledge of power tools, shipboard operations, and NAVSEA standards. Must be able to complete work duties with minimal supervision. Desired Qualifications: Prefer the ability to obtain a passport. Prefer the ability to communicate effectively. Prefer specialized qualifications such as: Fiber Fabrication, Shipyard Competent Person, Permit Authorization Individual. Security Requirements: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards and naval installations. Travel Requirements: Moderate Travel Required; 50% or less. If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements: Repetitive motion, Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Picking, Grasping, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity (depth perception). Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), subject to noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions (affect the respiratory system), frequently work in close quarters and/or function in narrow aisles or passageways (areas that could cause claustrophobia).
