Position Purpose

Under limited supervision, performs a wide variety of respiratory therapy procedures, especially acute care and ventilator usage, and assists in the evaluation of patient needs for respiratory therapy through observation.

What you will Do

  • Performs all routine therapies in Respiratory Care such as ezpap, aerosol, oxygen and chest physiotherapy treatments.

  • Performs bedside pulmonary function exams and complete pulmonary function exams to determine the therapeutic needs of patients.

  • Sets up and monitors diagnostic equipment such as oximetry and capnography and recommends therapeutic changes based on the data collected.

  • Supervises exercise sessions, monitoring participants for inappropriate response to exercise. Leads education sessions for Pulmonary Rehab participants.

  • Performs Respiratory Care Treatment Pathway Assessments according to the policies and algorithms determining the most appropriate and effective therapies for patients. Reviews therapies on patients with other staff members on an on-going basis, modifying therapies under the Treatment Pathways as appropriate and necessary.

  • Completes EKG tests as ordered.Arterial puncture for ABG analysis.

  • Disassembles, cleans and sterilizes departmental equipment. Reassembles equipment when sterilized according to established policy and procedure.

  • Initiates and/or assists with Basic Cardiac Life Support in Cardiopulmonary arrests (Code Blue). Maintains BCLS and ACLS certifications.

Minimum Qualifications

RRT-

  • Requires graduate of an AMA respiratory therapy program. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist by passing the advanced level exam of the N.B.R.C.

  • Maintains BCLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.

  • Prefer a minimum of one to two years experience in all aspects of respiratory care, but especially adult critical care.

  • Maintains a high level of professionalism, which positively promotes the image of MercyOne Medical Center.

  • Must be eligible for and maintain Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner License.

CRT-

  • Requires graduate of an AMA respiratory therapy program.

  • Must be a Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (C.R.T.T. entry level exam by the N.B.R.C.).

  • Prefer a minimum of one to two years experience in all aspects of respiratory care, but especially adult critical care.

  • Maintains BCLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.

  • Maintains a high level of professionalism, which positively promotes the image of MercyOne Medical Center.

  • Must be eligible for and maintain Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
