    The POET Never Satisfied Internship openings are for Summer 2025. We post Internships in September with the intent to have interns selected by January 1st each year.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Accounting Intern will learn about financial business models, reasoning to support business decisions, and the accounting complexity of the world’s largest producer of biofuels. This position is exposed to accounting principles, financial statement structure, and may assist with daily, monthly and year-end reporting preparation and transactional activities. In addition, this position will identify and monitor internal controls, participate in a variety of projects, and work closely with the Corporate Financial Reporting and Accounting teams and Finance departments.

The Accounting Intern must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and is expected to anticipate and meet assigned deadlines, clarify expectations, digest feedback in a positive manner, and display a responsive, flexible and thorough approach to work.

    DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Preparing financial analysis and researching variances to reconcile general ledger accounts.

  • Perfoming various transactional duties, such as accounts receivables.

  • Performing audits using various internal control policies.

  • Assisting in cash strategies by analyzing financial data.

  • Designing and improving financial reports to streamline data collection.

  • Completing data validation and building ad hoc reporting utilizing the financial reporting software.

  • Maintaining confidential files and databases.

  • Assisting with special projects as necessary from a variety of team members.

  • Since we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skills may be put to a lot of other uses!

    STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

  • You are enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and are within 1-2 years of graduation.

  • You value relationships and have a strong customer service focus.

  • You are driven, organized, detail oriented, and eager to learn.

  • You have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently with a sense of urgency.

  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.

  • You have strong problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to suggest solutions.

  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel preferred. You’re also capable of learning new programs and software.
