This position reports to Director 1 Research and Development of North America Packaging, and is based at Skillman, NJ. ( Kenvue's corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.)

Role reports to: Director 1 Research and Development of North America Packaging

Location: Skillman, NJ ( Kenvue's corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.)

Travel %: 20% of the time

Pay: $113,000 to $195,500

What you will do

The R&D Package Development Associate Director is responsible for technical leadership and support for new development of cosmetic and topical OTC drug products under AVEENO, CLEAN & CLEAR, NEUTROGENA, LUBRIDERM, LISTERINE, JOHNSON'S among other brands. This individual will be responsible for providing leadership in Global and Regional Initiatives for Value Creation, Products Stewardship, Business Continuity and Compliance. Works with cross functional and cross regional peers to provide direction towards global and regional goals based on sound technical assessment and rationale. Effectively partners with cross functional teams, peers and other technical SMEs. Responsible for managing a team of professionals, resource prioritization and budgeting management for packaging OOP costs.

This individual will rely on strong technical skills and hands-on in package development, equipment understanding and sound judgment to effectively assess risk, triage issues for severity, and implement proactive solutions that meet the project goals. Complex issues will be communicated clearly and effectively in the spirit of partnership and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Connecting with regional packaging teams, bring together regional value realization priorities to be converted to enterprise-wide platforms, standardization and value engineering opportunities that drives global value, scale, agility and resiliency.
Lead global projects in cross functional teams to strategize and execute consumer-centric value realization opportunities and deliver on set annual targets for assigned projects meeting the intended design, quality, cost, risk, sustainability, functionality, and manufacturability objectives.
Lead initiatives in collaboration with Supply Chain by identifying efficiencies and implementing innovative packaging solutions, including introducing new applicable technologies both within and outside our industry that drives cost efficiency while improving agility and product quality without compromising fill/assembly efficiency. Build business case for moving forward with such technologies by working closely with a cross function team.
Leverage effective Project Management approaches and Right the First Time digital predictive assessments (such as FEA, Simulations, CAD analysis, etc) in order to effectively support key initiatives, and effectively influence project teams to get the desired outcome.
Developing strategic technical direction together with management. Linking technical knowledge to business strategy.
Lead role in R&D for technical problem resolution, demonstrates superior understanding of packaging and packing technologies and process, keeping consumer insights at the center.
Understands the research landscape and leverages internal and external network to access new scientific technologies.
Representing the department on cross-functional teams and develops new relationships.
Managing broad scope of projects with cross-functional and cross-regional involvement.
Influencing function resource and budget allocation.
Providing project/program progress reports and status updates to senior management.
Establishing project technical success criteria and monitors progress.
Communicating downwards to ensure alignment within the department and with business strategy.
Strong understanding of DTV (Design to Value) principles, leading growth-based programs focused on packaging and raw material costs.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in technical field in Packaging Sciences/Engineering is required
Related Work Experience is required:
10 years of experience with BS

8 years of experience with MS

6 years of experience with PhD

Deep technical understanding of packaging component manufacturing processes as well as filling and assembly is required
Understanding of FDA Compliance requirements is a required
Experience in large cosmetic consumer goods and global brand restages is required
Hands-on ability to acquire, understand and process highly technical data and ability to draw conclusions and recommendations is required
