Position Summary Information
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of First-Year Admissions leads the development and implementation of innovative recruitment strategies, marketing plans, and admission policies to achieve the desired mix of new undergraduate first-year students. The director administers and leads the first-year admissions operation, works effectively in a strategic enrollment management team environment, collaborates with faculty and academic leadership to sustain a culture attentive to enrollment management principles, and serves as an articulate spokesperson for the mission and values of the institution. The director is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and coordination of a comprehensive recruitment and admissions program. The director supervises a staff of 11 and has primary responsibilities for designing progressive marketing and recruitment strategies including e-communications using the Slate CRM and admissions publications. The director is responsible for creating reports and analyzing and reporting on marketing, admissions-related data, and financial aid/scholarship leveraging. The director is responsible for managing an advertising and operations budget. The director is responsible for overseeing the admission candidate selection process. The director leads an operation which uses technology in the recruitment process as a function of a progressive recruitment and enrollment environment.
Major duties include:
works in an environment attentive to strategic enrollment management principles
serves as the administrative supervisor responsible for the first-year recruitment and admissions operations
prepares and administers an advertising and operations budget
directs all functions of the undergraduate marketing, recruiting, and admissions plan for new first-year students
works collaboratively in a strategic enrollment management environment to reach goals related to enrollment, quality, diversity, and out-of-state recruitment goals
reviews admission files for decisions and makes admissions decisions to prospective students throughout the funnel processes
develops and implements enrollment management marketing initiatives through a collaborative effort with Marketing & Communications
recommends changes to recruitment and admissions policies and processing and upholds policies and procedures related to admissions processing, application credentials, and recruitment strategies
uses COGNOS and Slate data to monitor enrollment and admissions funnel processing, predict matriculation results, and implements strategic changes based on enrollment trend evidence
initiatives, develops, and manages the electronic, letter, publications, and text/phone communication campaigns throughout the admissions funnel processing
oversees the development of the web presence for first-year admissions
manage the recruitment travel strategy to meet enrollment goals
oversees the coordination of all on-campus visit programs
seeks and creates new opportunities for undergraduate recruitment via programming and services
oversees the design and preparation of all recruitment publications through a collaborative effort with Marketing & Communications
develops, implements and processes program and services assessments
collaborates with financial aid to create, implement, and monitor scholarship strategies
manages an advertising and operations budget
coordinates Dual Enrollment/Fast Track Program
supervises 1 Associate Director and 5 Assistant Directors
coordinates and assigns work for recruitment staff (calendars, visit programs, office coverage, individual projects)
represent SRU at college day/night programs
represent SRU at individual high school visit programs
serve as an articulate spokesperson for the mission and values of the institution
participate in evening, weekend work, and overnight travel are required and essential
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of seven years of professional recruitment and admissions experience in higher education.
Experience working with diverse constituencies, including faculty, deans and senior staff, admission office colleagues, students, parents, school counselors and alumni.
Evidence of excellent written communication skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license required, be able to work weekends, and travel with overnight stays.
Successful candidate must perform well in an on campus interview and successfully deliver a formal presentation.
Completion of a successful background checks also required.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership skills; ability to lead and execute recruitment and marketing initiatives; knowledge of and experience with CRM applications, or Banner; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; supervisory experience, and evidence of energy, flexibility, integrity, and creativity.
