DESCRIPTION OF WORK The intern will be stationed at the Laurel Hill State Park complex, which encompasses Laurel Hill, Kooser, and Laurel Ridge State Parks. The role involves collaborating with park personnel to gain insights into managing a comprehensive maintenance program aimed at ensuring that the park's grounds, structures, facilities, and equipment are well-maintained. The intern will also assist in overseeing various recreational and educational activities within the park to maximize the effective use of its facilities.
In addition to routine groundskeeping, the intern will participate in special maintenance projects as required, working closely with park staff. Engaging with visitors is a key aspect of the role, as the intern will interact with the public both in the office and in the field, providing exceptional customer service to enhance their experience and ensure a memorable visit. The intern will also learn about the staff's involvement in law enforcement activities, including the application of the Crimes Code, Vehicle Code, and Fish and Game laws relevant to State Parks, while ensuring compliance with park rules and regulations through public engagement. Furthermore, the intern will work alongside park staff to understand the management of the park's natural resources, focusing on preparation, maintenance, and adherence to best practices.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025 Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position may require evenings and weekends, not to exceed 37.5 hours a week.

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following acceptable majors: Recreation, Park & Tourism Management Park & Resource Management Environmental Science Environmental Studies An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable. Freshman year completed. Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university
Additional Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
