South Bend Empowerment Zone Culinary Arts and Hospitality Instructor -SY 24-25 in South Bend, Indiana

Position Title: Culinary Arts and Hospitality Teacher Salary Range: Teacher Contract Contract Length: Teacher Contract Immediate Supervisor: Principal Position Summary: As a crucial part of this position, this qualified Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructor works closely with building and district administrators to ensure delivery of a curriculum that provides students with a robust introduction to Culinary Arts and Hospitality that is aligned with state standards. The Culinary Arts and Hospitality Teacher ensures students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development on a path towards the field of Culinary Arts & Hospitality. The instructor is responsible for creating, organizing, and delivering the Culinary Arts curriculum to middle school students, based on IDOE standards, and providing them with opportunities to earn their CTE certification in this field. Essential Duties Develop and operationalize a curriculum designed to achieve the stated goals of the Indiana Department of Education’s Academic Standards Course Framework for Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. Facilitate student learning through engaging and rigorous instructional experiences aligned with the standards and use student data to inform instruction. Identify and make use of school and community resources which will contribute to the effectiveness of the students' learning experiences. Develop a work-based learning component providing students with real-world experiences. Provide opportunities for students to earn State-approved certifications or credentials. Organize field trips and business industry site visits related to the culinary field. Supervise students enrolled in the program ensuring their safety at all times. Collaborate with Chartwells, community partners, and potential employers to provide catering and hands-on, work-based learning opportunities for students. Assess/evaluate students and provide regular, actionable feedback. Maintain current gradebook and attendance of enrolled students. Qualifications Must hold a valid Indiana teaching license Must have proof of three years (6000 hours) experience working in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Industry or related field. Strong ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, staff, and stakeholders. Preferred Master’s Degree in Education or related field Prior teaching experience in urban education Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is seated or walking at will, and must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds. COMPENSATION: Starting salary for new teachers with 0 years' experience will be $46,000 for SY24-25. Compensation increases with experience and education, according to the current salary placement schedule.
