$63,500 annually

Description

Salary Range - $63,500 annually

SUMMARY:Directs and coordinates the work of foremen, crews, equipment and laborers in the maintenance and repair of city streets and does related work as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Directs all foremen and hourly.

QUALIFICATIONS:To successfully perform in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of the operational functions of the Street Department.
  • Assigns crews to proper work areas.
  • Maintains inventory of tools, safety supplies, vehicles, and materials.
  • Maintain records of all expenses, materials used, inventory and vehicle use and/or repairs.
  • Meets with citizens, explains work projects, and attempts to remedy all complaints or problems.
  • Reviews and records absenteeism, job performance, work progress, time sheets and related matters.
  • Prepares daily, periodic, and seasonal reports on work progress and other matters.
  • Must be available on a stand by basis and work during emergency situations when needed.
  • Ability to use transit to establish grade elevations and proper drainage.
  • Knowledge of utility identification and location.
  • Other duties as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Knowledge of the methods and materials used in public construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to instruct others in the operation of all equipment and in general labor crew work.
  • Ability to maintain records and to prepare daily reports.
  • Knowledge of union agreements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:

  • Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school, accredited years of college or specialized training in management, one year supervision experience, working as a crew or job leader, and operating heavy and/or light equipment in construction related work.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Basic knowledge of Bureau of Sewers operations and programs preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Traffic and Lighting operations and programs preferred.

LICENSE NEEDED:Class A Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one within 60 working days, with the following endorsements:

  • Air brake and general knowledge
  • Combination vehicle
  • Tanker

TOOLS USED:All categories of pneumatic, hydraulic, manual, and industrial equipment and tools needed to perform assignments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Exposure to oil and grease, solvents and other chemicals. Ability to lift, or assist in lifting, a minimum of 90 pounds. This is a safety sensitive position, subject to random testing for drugs and alcohol in accordance with the City policy.
