2025 Intern Overview

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive candidate to participate in our summer internship program in the Quantitative Translation and ADME Sciences (QTAS) department. The intern is expected to work on research projects encompassing the in vitro ADME/DMPK area. The position includes both wet lab and desk work. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop in a vibrant, thought-provoking research community.

The position will be based in South San Francisco, CA.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Train in designing routine ADME experiments (with oversight from the intern manager)

  • Perform the designed in vitro ADME experiments

  • Perform literature search on relevant ADME topics

  • Summarize the literature search and prepare a document with key takeaway points and corresponding complete list of citations

  • Meet weekly with the intern manager to provide project updates

  • Perform data analysis and interpretation

  • Present research findings to the department at the end of the internship

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master's or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or other related field

  • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship

  • Strong academic performance that includes ADME/PK coursework

  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of in vitro ADME/DMPK concepts

  • Basic understanding on the theoretical and practical use of LC-MS/MS

  • Methodical work, attention to detail and ability to think critically

  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills

  • Scientific passion and integrity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expected graduation date between December 2025 – July 2026

  • Robust and extensive coursework in ADME/PK

  • Hands on experience in in vitro ADME assays

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data (Excel, GraphPad Prism)
