Eaton’s IS VEH Technology division is currently seeking a Specialist Controls Engineer. This is a hybrid work opportunity based at our Southfield, MI facility.

The Specialist Controls Engineer is responsible to design and develop new control system technology for passenger car and commercial vehicle powertrain systems. The scope of responsibility includes development of conceptual solutions, analytics, and hardware needed to validate critical questions, delivery of proof-of-concept prototypes, and transition of new technology to the product development organizations. The technical domain is embedded control systems for vehicular powertrain application.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $105000.03 - $154000.04 a year.

What you’ll do:

• Contributes to the creation of new product opportunities that provide value through technology.

• Creates commercially viable solutions to control system challenges in the vehicle powertrain domain.

• Defines, plans, and executes all engineering aspects of a prototype control system development project including analysis, design, implementation, and test.

• Invents new intellectual property that enables value creation.

• Oversees the installation of prototype control systems into development vehicles and dynamometers.

• Interacts with engineers, designers, and technicians to accomplish project objectives.

• Interacts with customer, partner, and supplier organizations to accomplish project objectives.

• Clearly communicates to management and stakeholders both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications:

Required Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

• Minimum five (5) years experience in control system design and development in industry using MATLAB/Simulink

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future

• No relocation is available for this position. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Southfield, MI to be considered. Active Duty Military are exempt from this geographical limitation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master of Science in Engineering with concentration in control systems from an accredited institution. Expert knowledge of algorithm development for control of dynamic systems

• Expert knowledge of embedded control system architecture definition, component design/selection, and implementation

• Expert knowledge of physical modeling and simulation techniques for dynamic systems

• Knowledge of transmission controls

Skills:

• Basic knowledge of vehicular powertrain systems

• Experience with integration of systems composed of mechanical, electrical communication and control elements

• This role is subject to US Department of Energy regulations
