Responsibilities
What You'll Get To Do:
The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting and implementing EHS programs and guidelines in support of PENA’s battery production. The EHS Specialist plays a key role in production operations as well as the management of PENA’s EHS programs and policies. Additionally, the EHS Specialist I will work directly with production and support teams, safety champions, consultants, and vendors to maintain compliance and mitigate risk.
Essential Duties:
Promote a culture of quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the PENA organization
Fields questions, concerns, and compliance issues, at times, under the guidance of other Specialists or EHS Leadership
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and standards
Assess and evaluate process and activities on the production floor and guide production safety teams in safe practices and adoption of best practices
Develop and implement written environmental, health & safety programs, policies, and procedures
Work collaboratively with other business teams to create an integrated management system
Support or lead incident analyses to determine root cause(s), prevention, and corrective measures
Conduct risk assessments with cross-functional support teams and identify risk mitigation strategies
Collect and analyze data using commercial software or in-house platforms. Effectively communicate information to verify compliance and continuous improvement efforts
Conduct industrial hygiene surveys to identify, evaluate and control physical, chemical, and biological hazards in the workplace
Assist with emergency response activities and drills
Conduct routine audits to identify any deficiencies and develop appropriate corrective actions
Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports and permitting requirements as needed
Interact and support with personnel at all organizational levels, both internal and external to the company. Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to add value to the organization
Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by EHS leaders
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
- To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is required in some areas and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications
What You'll Bring:
Education:
Basic/Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Engineering or related technical field or/and Master’s Degree in similar field
Essential Qualifications:
Minimum of 3+ years of experience with EHS
Industrial Hygiene experience is a bonus, but not required
Experience in working in manufacturing environment
Understanding of OSHA and EPA. regulations. Working knowledge of IBC, ISO, ANSI, NFPA
Experience in conducting EHS training
Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis
Experience working with contractors and external personnel regarding field-based safety
Self-starter, with general instructions. Strong attention to detail
Work effectively and efficiently in a cross-discipline environment as well as independently
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced and changing environment
Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against production deadlines and goals
Superior communication and interpersonal skills
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
Skills in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to respond to site emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2+ years of people leader experience
Resilient, self-motived and able to work well under pressure
