Responsibilities

Work closely with the plant personnel to facilitate daily quality functions. Ensure procedures are followed and product testing is performed in a manner that will enhance the delivery of quality product to the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

FACILITY

  • Follows all safety/food safety and quality rules and absolutes to foster the safety/quality culture in the plant.

  • Tests quality, packaging, labeling specifications on product coming off the end of line for accuracy.

  • Trains and coaches operators and packers to be able to understand test methods and specifications to ensure accuracy and comprehension.

  • Coordinates production inspection activities to ensure all lines are tested during the manufacturing process.

  • Works closely with the Warehouse and Production teams to identify and implement continuous improvement projects to drive cost savings.

  • Oversees the quality management system and conducts internal audits

  • Place non-conforming finished product on hold. Coordinate the recheck and disposition.

  • Maintain test equipment in accordance with set standards. Train others as required.

  • Manages all quality reporting, retain program, and calibrations.

  • Test in process, finished, and return products as requested. Assist in developing procedures and acceptance limits.

  • Work with Purchasing to address any vendor concerns

  • Supervises the shift when the production and warehouse management team is not present.

OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • Must have good speaking skills.

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.

  • Able to edit documents for accuracy including spelling and grammar.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and employees both in person and through written and verbal correspondence.

  • Ability to perform duties with minimal direction and be self-motivated.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Adheres to safety and food safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry Global Inc. guidelines.

  • Visually inspects the facility for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards and helps to maintain a clean work environment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Being mechanically inclined is preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school graduation or its equivalent required. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 or relevant version required; certification as internal auditor preferred. Experience with lab testing, preferred. High attention to detail required performing testing in an accurate and repeatable manner. Prefer production or quality control experience with extrusion, flexographic printing, and/or converting processes.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed. Ability to create and edit documents based on limited information from others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to do functional math; i.e. adding, subtracting, multiplying and division. Prefer ability to perform and understand basic statistics calculations such as mean and standard deviation.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Ability to create, edit, and format documents in Microsoft Word. Ability to create, edit, and format spreadsheets and charts in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Microsoft Outlook or similar e-mail program. Prefer experience with webpages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue. The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze. Bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, sitting, carrying, standing in one place, reaching, pushing and pulling for general duties. A minimum lifting requirement of 50 pounds is required. Occasional climbing/descending of stairs as well as pushing a broom to clean the production floor are required. The employee stands and frequently walks the production area to locate materials, check products, file and offer assistance where needed. Operation of a pallet jack occasionally needed.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment.
