We will be building and operating a high precision, high volume, fast passed, and highly automated test laboratory supporting the rapid characterization of new materials for the Department of Defense. This position will be a specialist in the setup and testing of dynamic and static mechanical tests to required specifications.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in daily safety discussions to ensure the continued success of the program – maintain knowledge of process through training, perform scheduled observations, and provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.

  • Measure and prepare specimens for testing.

  • Set up equipment, fixtures, and software for tests as appropriate.

  • Operate dynamic and static test frames to perform tests.

  • Prepare detailed testing reports for multiple sample tests. Identify conformance as necessary to test requirements.

  • Ensure test equipment and instruments are functioning properly and in calibration.

  • Monitor tests for anomalies and resolve any issues proactively.

  • Calibrate and adjust instrumentation and test equipment. Assist with maintenance of equipment.

  • Communicate production and equipment problems to appropriate personnel.

  • Ensure sample traceability is maintained throughout the testing process.

  • Program and operate lab furnaces as necessary.

  • Ability to analyze and communicate both simple and complex test results

  • Communicate with customer / Engineering to ensure new testing is being conducted per customer's expectations.

  • Understand and perform to Scot Forge Quality Policy expectations.

  • Ability to flex to other departments per the customer and as business trends change

    Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. College level math classes preferred.

  • 2-years prior lab testing experience

  • Must be able to read blueprints.

  • Set up and operate all dynamic and static test frames (fatigue, fracture toughness, creep / stress rupture, tensile and compression, impact).

  • Knowledge of different material grades and difference in testing methods and performance is preferred.

  • Basic computer skills. Must be able to create detailed test reports using MS Office and other software packages.

  • Ability to attend and complete all appropriate training for necessary certifications.

    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Metallurgy Laboratory and Shop Floor environments.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Position entails standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.

  • This position will work under the direction of the department supervisor. This position may be required to learn/develop additional skills to flex to other departments/locations/shifts in order to service the business needs and meet customer expectations.

  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud, and occasionally very loud. Use appropriate PPE.
