Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Job Summary:

Ultium Cells is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to serve as engineering liaison for facility operations, including but not limited to providing technical expertise necessary for proper physical operation of facilities equipment, central plant systems equipment, and provide technical direction to and oversight of resident contracted facilities services. Typical functions include building/process maintenance, providing engineering support and troubleshooting, asset sustainment, and equipment lifecycle planning. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment where creativity and initiative is exercised as well as independent judgment.

Responsibilities:

• Develop engineering solutions that result in Continuous Improvement in the areas of Safety, Uptime, and Quality.

• Use data to identify process conditions and develop solutions

• Work with Maintenance Team on emergency repairs, implementing corrective actions, and developing procedures/training materials.

• Assign and follow up on planned and unplanned repairs.

• Communicate and coordinate information to and from internal and external customers.

• Setup spare parts and order material as needed.

• Develop specification for upgraded and new equipment.

• Update / create procedural documents and tooling drawing related to process improvements.

• Collaborate cross functionally to develop creative solutions.

• Remain flexible and at times work extended and non-core hours to ensure issues are worked to resolution.

• Periodic monitoring and evaluation of safe work of contractors working on site

• Summarize critical issues and escalate to leadership when required for support

• Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety culture

• Work alongside joint safety team to maintain the Workplace Safety System and achieve site goals

Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field

• 3+ years of facility / mechanical systems experience

• Ability to lead and work with service providers

• Experience managing mechanical projects

• Ability to understand and assess complex Engineering issues

• Ability to lead teams in a cross functional environment to successfully resolve issues minimizing impact to production

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office suite

• Ability to multi-task, supporting several projects with various priority levels

• Strong organization skills – managing Information from multiple locations and sources

• Ability to work both independently and within teams

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

• Meaningful work experiences with examples of successful engineering projects.

• Working knowledge of PLC’s and machine controls

• Experience with analysis and operation understanding on multiple mechanical systems including but not limited to Chiller systems/ Boilers / HVAC units/ Compressors / Pump systems across industrial facilities.

• Proficient in Solidworks or other 3D CAD software.
