Pliant Plastics Corporation Team Leader- 2nd shift in Spring Lake, Michigan
Position Summary: Will manage and lead a team of Pliant team members. Motivate team members and assess performance on a daily basis. Provide help to leadership, including aspects of hiring and training, and keep leadership updated on team performance. Communicate concerns and policies among leadership and team members. Work closely with the Shift Manager to plan and execute daily production activities including but not limited to: quality, packaging and secondary operations to meet or exceed customer expectations for quality parts delivered on time. Responsible for maintaining high efficiency in their area, scheduling and covering breaks, 5S excellence, and accurate control of inventory and part/machine status in Plex. Responsible for providing thorough hand-offs to the oncoming shift each day, working closely with their counterparts on the other shifts. The "go-to" person in their area of responsibility, working closely with production associates assigned to their area, ensuring they have the tools and training to be excellent in their work. This is a player/coach position. The expectation is that individuals in this role will work production and provide services, training, and positive reinforcement to ensure others in their area can work effectively and efficiently.
Responsible for packing and labeling product, loading/unloading multiple production machines and operating assembly equipment to assemble products and/or packaging according to customer and company provided specifications.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Personal Traits:
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
- Leadership certificate or completion of some leadership classes.
- 1 - 3 years manufacturing experience (plastics and automotive experience preferred).
- Proficient with Microsoft Applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Leadership experience and strong relationship building
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical activities to non-technical personnel.
- Experience with group communication and problem solving methods.
Familiar with automated equipment operation.

Perform all work functions in adherence to safety, quality and production policies.
Demonstrate, communicate, and coach team members on Pliant's core values, culture, and vision of lean.
Demonstrate ability to follow conveynance rates with specified cycle times.
Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skill checks.
Assists with new team member training.
Answers team member questions, helps with team member problems, and oversees team member work for quality and guideline compliance.
Develops strategies to promote team member adherence to company regulations and performance goals.
Conducts stand-up meetings to update members at start of shift.
Load and unload automatic and semi-automatic equipment with material and product.
Perform hand or mechanical assembly and packaging.
Understand schedules, Plex, dispatch list, and work instructions to meet production needs.
Back-up to the Shift Manager: able to run a shift independently for a day or week, able to create the schedule team members, perform daily meeting rhythms and metric reporting, and addressing "hot list items."
Perform SPC/SQC quality verifications as necessary by work instructions. Assist with first piece sign-offs.
Must be lean yellow belt certified and enrolled in lean green belt.
Must be enrolled in leadership sucession plan classes.
Ability to troubleshoot, fix, or escalate technical issues
