Overview

The Section Manager Distribution Resource Integrations ("DRI"), Clean Energy Regulatory Planning will play a key role for the DRI by supporting the interests of Orange and Rockland and its customers to work with regulators and third parties in support of a clean energy future and new utility business models. The Section Manager will lead a team of professionals that are responsible for monitoring various clean energy related proceedings and legislation, designing new market mechanisms, and setting the Company's strategy for clean energy and climate resilience. The Section Manager will support the enablement of new product and service offerings while allowing the utility to manage the system with a high penetration of distributed assets, smart grid technologies, demand response, energy efficiency, and other customer-side technologies. In addition, this position will focus on potential industry changes for an evolving power grid for New York and New Jersey. This includes providing more information to stakeholders about system needs in an effort to direct customer solutions in areas where they will have the greatest benefit to the system, and as a result, to all utility customers. The Section Manger will manage processes related to innovation development, reporting on clean energy activities across the enterprise, and coordinating among various groups to implement, track and share high-level market trends and insights.The Section Manager will perform the role of managing initiatives and teams responsible for developing the Distributed System Platform (DSP) that integrates Distributed Energy Resources (DER) into the Company's long term and short term planning and operations. The Section Manager will coordinate with all internal and external stakeholders during the development of the DSP and coordinate with all internal groups to continually improve various processes and tools associated with the DSP once implemented.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Provides direct oversight and leadership for initiatives that advance the goals of NYs Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and NJs Energy Master Plan (EMP) and align with the Companys long-term vision.
  • Develops relationships with customers, alternate energy providers, and internal business units to identify new business opportunities related to the growth of distributed energy resources, including new revenue models, climate resilience demonstration projects, and customer engagement tools which advance the Companys position.
  • Manages consultants and 3rd party partner relationships to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Participates in the implementation of CLCPA and EMP through the assessment of NYPSC/NJBPU policy issues to determine their impact on the Company.
  • Responsible for attending and preparing documentation for periodic meetings with NYPSC Staff, BPU Staff, customers, and town and local officials to provide information pertaining to clean energy planning implementation.
  • Responsible for overseeing the development of distribution-level market design for DER procurement for the Companys new role as the DSP, entails defining market structure, roles of market participants, products and services, procurement options, and market rules.
  • Analyzes market model alternatives to facilitate informed decision making and assists in the formulation of the Companys strategic policy direction; includes preparation and presentation of findings to senior management.
  • Participates on various cross-functional teams which influence and identify new business solutions for the Company including; Electrical Engineering, Technology Engineering, Energy Services, Customer Assistance/Accounting, AMI and other interfacing departments to adhere to all requirements and time schedules for the completion of REV related work.
  • Represents the Company at NYPSC/NJBPU conferences and working group meetings related to CLCPA/Climate Resilience
  • Represents the Company at industry conferences and meetings with external stakeholders related CLCPA/ Climate Resilience.
  • Communicates, engages, and partners with lead stakeholders such as the NYPSC, NYSERDA, NYISO and other Joint Utility and DER participants.
  • Prepares reports and presentations, and facilitate meetings for upper management. Makes formal and informal presentations to Company management, operations staff, and external stakeholders. Prepares written reports and supporting materials for executive meetings and submission to the NYPSC and NJBPU.
  • Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and with 8 years of related work experience is required or
  • Master's Degree and with 6 years of related work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • 8-6 years of relevant industry experience related to the engineering and/or operations of utility systems. The ideal candidate will also have relevant experience in any of the following areas: utility regulation, utility finance, energy markets, energy efficiency, or electric power systems and technology. Required
  • Demonstrated work experience performing independent, rigorous research within a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment is required. Required
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to understand and deal with technical issues as well as assess customer and Company economics associated with DRI. Required
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Required
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management. Required
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines. Required
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Required
  • Ability to do both independent, rigorous research and also contribute to a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment is essential. Required
  • Prior experience managing projects and third party service providers and contractors preferred. Preferred
  • Familiarity with utility system design and construction preferred. Preferred
  • Familiarity with Energy Efficiency and Demand Response programs preferred Preferred
  • Working knowledge of regulatory processes such as preparation of rate proceedings, responding to commission orders interrogatory requests is preferred. Preferred
  • Knowledge of the business operations in the areas of purchasing and cost control is preferred. Preferred
Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory and to other CECONY/O&R locations, as needed.
  • Must be able and willing to occasionally travel to regulatory and industry meetings as required.

Minimum Salary: 140000.00 Maximum Salary: 190000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
