Join a team of researchers and clinicians who have been awarded a $3 million dollar grant from the National Institute of Health to develop an understanding of the critical impact of the breast milk microbiome and inflammation on breastfeeding success and infant health. We are looking for individuals with a strong interest or experience in lactation or healthcare for a flexible per diem position (5-10 hrs/week). The clinical research assistant will be expected to drive to women’s homes at several time points following the birth to obtain information from the mothers on their breastfeeding journey and to transport specimens back to the laboratory.

Summary Description:
This clinical research assistant will be working on an NIH funded Breastfeeding CHAMPS study. The research assistant will be expected to make home visits following the birth to obtain information from the mothers on their breastfeeding journey and to transport specimens back to the laboratory. At the laboratory they may assist in processing specimens if needed. This flexible per diem position is accountable to the Core Director at the Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute (ccBP78). It is expected to encompass 5-10 hrs /week.
The ideal candidate will have lactation experience or knowledge in that area. Ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish
Job Requirements:
1) Must have a driver's license, their own car and be willing to make home visits.
2) Expected to complete training for both handling and transportation of human specimens.
3) Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
4) Secures study and patient files to ensure confidentiality. Collect data according to structured guidelines. Records & Organizes results. Reports unusual findings to supervisor.
5) Interviews study participants on how breastfeeding is going and infant health/growth
6) Collect and transport biospecimens (breast milk, fecal material, blood spot) to the lab
7) Perform study tasks in accordance with BMC policies and federal and state regulations.
Qualifications
Unless otherwise required by certification, licensure, or registration, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the minimally required education and/or experience listed in the Qualifications section below.
Preferred Experience:
experience with lactation, lactation education or women's health
