ELECTION ASSISTANT Position Purpose/Summary Responsible for the updating of election information on the City\'s website. Maintains, tests and prepares voting equipment before and after elections. Conducts complex clerical and data processing work with a high level of public contact. Work is performed under the supervision of the Election Commissioner. No supervision is exercised over other employees. Essential Functions Maintains and updates the Election Office\'s pages on the City\'s public website. Maintains, tests, and prepares the voting equipment as needed before and after elections. Conducts logic and accuracy testing of all voting machines prior to each election. Orders, receives, and organizes all office supplies and supplies for all 64 polling locations. Processes voter\'s lists and residency lists or extracts and creates discs as needed. Updates state based computer with census data, voter registrations and information as well as RMV and other state data. Inputs paper voter registration received by mail and over the counter. Files registrations as necessary. Mails out acknowledged notices, processes and distributes incoming mail accordingly. Assists citizens at the counter and instructs them on the proper procedures relating to voter registration. Answers phone calls and fills-out residency certificates. Receives, processes and certifies petitions and nomination papers. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of election and related laws. Working knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment. Ability to plan, install, and supervise detailed clerical systems. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with board members, public officials, and the general public. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one year of technical office experience. Bilingual strongly preferred.
