American Outdoor Brands Corporation Electro-mechanical Repair Technician (nights) in Springfield, Massachusetts

Conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of Manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex electrical and mechanical service work in such areas as, but not limited to, production, tooling support, plant and machine maintenance.

  • Perform duties and share goals as part of Participative Work Team, regardless of shift, with responsibility for areas such as, but not limited to, communicating, budgeting, scheduling, evaluating, analyzing, problem solving, and decision making on all issues relevant to the total quality output and operations of their team. Team members may also have input on issues relative to hiring and termination of other team members.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, numerical controls, power supplies, drives, gages and test equipment.

  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.

  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.

  • Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.

  • Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.

  • Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.

  • Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.

  • Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.

  • Diagnose, rebuild and repair equipment.

  • Operation of equipment for diagnostic purposes

  • Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Must perform other duties or meet any additional requirements that may be deemed necessary for successful operation of Participative Work Team (s). Must provide own tools if required.

Education and Experience:

  • Duties require decision making regarding the solutions to problems not normally encountered. Employees must determine appropriate actions to be taken to achieve required results.

  • 5-7 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.

  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.

  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.

  • Willing to work 12 Hr. shift and overtime, as required.

  • Computer experience/operation or PLC programming experience is necessary.

  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.

  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.

  • Must be highly safety conscious.

  • Exposed to high voltage electricity and have completed arc flash training.

  • High School/GED preferred

  • Requires broad trades training and knowledge of related methods and procedures acquired in a formal apprenticeship program or through equivalent extensive on the job training and experience.

  • Must possess required licenses.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write and interpret English language.

  • Basic computer skills preferred

Training Requirements:

  • Complete all company mandated training as required.

  • Participate in and follow all company initiatives.

  • Must successfully complete all technical, administrative, and interpersonal training programs to satisfy Participative Work Team objectives and become a multi-skilled team member.

  • Must obtain fork truck license and boom lift training.

Physical Demands:

  • Continuous: standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing/pulling, and reaching.

  • Occasional: kneeling, sitting, squatting, overhead work, fine and gross upper body motor movement

  • Maximum lift: to 30 pounds and assisted lifting

  • Occasional lifting: 0 to 30 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. Will be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with moving around machinery, work in confined quarters, exposed to vibrations and shop lighting.

  • The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in anther department, this includes vision, hearing, and footwear.

  • Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting.

  • All employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasks.
