Summary This Interdisciplinary, GS-0150/0401/1301/1370-9 position is located in the National Park Service - Northeast Region in the Lands Resources Division. Responsibilities Develops, manages, coordinates, maintains, and implements geospatial and other database management systems in accordance with Land Resources Division and national data standards. Prepares, creates, and maintains a wide variety of professional mapping and cartographic products, primarily using ArcGIS and AutoCAD, in support of land acquisition and realty management projects. Coordinates, develops, and maintains professional relationships with realty, cartographic, survey, attorney, park staff, private organizations and public agencies to facilitate data procurement and cooperation on a variety of GIS, information management, and lands resources related projects. Converts land record information from static/analog sources to digital GIS format, including engineering or boundary survey maps and plats, tax assessor maps, aerial photographs, mosaics, and other records. Assists with developing and testing enterprise GIS data solutions, applications and standards. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. To qualify for this Interdisciplinary, GS-0150/0401/1301/1370-9 position, you must possess at least one of the following individual occupational requirements by close of the announcement: Geographer, GS-0150: A bachelor's or higher degree with a major in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. OR A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Biologist, GS-0401: A bachelor's or higher degree with a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Physical Scientist, GS-1301: A bachelor's or higher degree with a major in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR A combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education. Cartographer, GS-1370: A bachelor's or higher degree with a major in cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). OR A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting at least one of the individual occupational requirements listed above, applicants must meet one of the following: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities/competencies to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. This experience includes using Geographic Information System (GIS) to maintain data for the creation and revision of maps, charts, and related cartographic products and geospatial parcel databases. -OR- Successful completion of at least two years of directly related progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree that has provided you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities/ competencies necessary to do the work of the position being filled. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. When combining education with experience, first determine your total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine your experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify you for that grade level. Only graduate level education in excess of 18 semester hours may be combined with experience. For example, an applicant with 6 months of appropriate experience equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-9) and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement for GS-9) would be qualified for a GS-9 position (assuming that there is no evidence that the attended college or university requires more than 18 semester hours as equivalent to a year of graduate study).
