General Function
The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.
Description of Primary Duties
We seek a candidate with expertise in cell and molecular biology who can demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching practices. Teaching responsibilities include instructing, advising, and supporting both undergraduate and graduate students as well as providing access to high impact practices for increasing student retention, persistence, and success. Research responsibilities include development of an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate (MS) students that results in peer-reviewed publications and applications for extramural funding to support research. Candidates should provide service to the school, college, and university.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Qualifications
A doctorate (PhD, MD, etc.) in cellular biology, molecular biology, or closely related field
Ability to teach courses in human-focused cell biology and related electives such as neurobiology, embryology, signal transduction, cancer biology, histology, virology, molecular biology, biotechnology, or pharmacology
Potential for, or evidence of, the use of innovative, learner-centered pedagogy
Involvement and ability to engage undergraduate and graduate students in biomedical science research
A publication record in peer-reviewed journals
Ability or potential to mentor and support our student population
Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
