Summary

The Central Core Technician assists the Nursing Staff in the Operating Room with management of sterile instruments and supplies and gathers necessary supplies to perform each procedure.

Essential Functions

Adheres to the Nursing Division Mission by delivering patient care focused on : a) Patient satisfaction as demonstrated by participation in rounding, discharge phone calls, use of AIDET in communication with patients and families or other similar strategies implemented by Press Ganey Surveys. B) Patient Safety as demonstrated by adherence to the National Patient Safety Goals and other patient safety initiatives. C) Quality Patient care as demonstrated by delivery of evidence based best practices care as measured by Core measures and quality reporting organizations.

Pulls supplies for current days' cases and those for the following day utilizing the printed surgical schedule. Demonstrates knowledge of location of supplies in the core, how to locate extra supplies needed for specific cases; is aware of daily schedule and can prioritize tasks. Demonstrates knowledge of ordering process, anticipates case needs and procures supplies in a timely manner.

Assists in maintaining inventory control by working closely with the Supply Chain Coordinator. Checks

stock inventory levels and restocks as necessary. Acts as liason between Central Supply and the Operating

Room. Maintains a functional knowledge of equipment and instruments and is familiar with their location;

acts as a resource for associates.

Interpersonal skills: Communicates pertinent case information with RN. Demonstrates ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and refers situations beyond job scope to specialty team leader and the OR manager. Exhibits dependability, coordinates and plans responsibilities efficiently, uses tact, sound judgement and professional attitude at all times when relating to patients, families, and coworkers.

Follows BSMH policies and maintains high standards of safe work performance.

Attends and participates in department/unit meetings per unit policy

Actively participates in performance improvement

High School Diploma or GED

CPR

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

1 year experience in hospital setting preferred.
