Job Description

This temporary position exists to provide advising services to all SCTCC students that use the Academic Advising Center. This includes the AA/MnTC, Pre-Health, Transfer Pathway and undecided students.

This temporary position has an emphasis on New Student Advising & Registration, One-on-One scheduled meetings, group Advising sessions, drop-in meetings and Express Enroll events. This includes understanding and referring students to campus resources to assist in developing academic and career goal plans with students. This position will also assist with office coverage and activities offered through the Advising Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of:

  • College policies, procedures, curriculum, services, and resources for students.

  • Community and college resources for students, including counselors, staff, and other services.

  • Specialized computer software to include MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, ISRS, the electronic early alert system, and the ability to learn new software as the need arises.

  • Ability to:

  • Assess individual student needs and identify applicable resources and interventions.

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with peers at other higher educational institutions and secure knowledge of applicable transfer issues.

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with campus partners to secure knowledge and keep abreast of changes with programs offered at SCTCC.

  • Organize multiple tasks, initiate actions and make independent decisions.

  • Maintain confidentiality of private information according to procedures, rules, regulations, and criteria (Including HIPPA for health information and FERPA for student information).

  • Communication skills sufficient to be able to motivate students, mediate a situation, and to work with colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.

Other Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
