Position Announcement

Reporting to the Director of IT Security and Network Operations, this position is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all aspects of the University’s network infrastructure, including core routers and switches, access layer switches, wireless device configuration and management, telephony solutions, and layer 1 wiring. Helps ensure the smooth operation of the network, troubleshoots network issues, and implements security measures to protect data and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure network equipment, including routers, switches, telephones, and wireless access points.

  • Identify and resolve network hardware and software issues, working closely with other IT teams and vendors if necessary.

  • Implement network monitoring tools to proactively identify potential issues, analyze network traffic, and ensure optimal performance.

  • Monitor network capacity, bandwidth utilization, and system performance to identity trends and to suggest improvements as needed.

  • Document network configurations and changes.

  • Implement necessary security procedures to protect network infrastructure and access.

  • Guide and assist IT Wiring as needed.

  • Engage in a planned program of professional development, coordinated with Information Technology Services’ goals and responsibilities; maintain continual growth in professional skills and knowledge essential to the position.

  • Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to perform network maintenance, testing and upgrades.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Those with a combination of college coursework and work experience equivalent to four years will also be considered.

  • At least two (2) years of proven network administration experience preferred.

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco network equipment such as routers, switches, telephones, and wireless access points.

  • Experience with current network security procedures including, but not limited to, VPNs, AAA, WI-FI and network device security methods.

  • In-depth knowledge of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), and network infrastructure components.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in complex network environments.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management systems.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues, management, and external vendors.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $60,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of August/September 2024.
