Position Overview

The Plant Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of a plant as well as providing leadership, training, supervision and support to the Concrete Delivery Professionals. The Plant Manager will also need to develop and maintain teamwork within the concrete production and delivery departments. The successful candidate should possess an understanding of profit and loss metrics coupled with a strong understanding of cost control measures and CAPEX spend. This position may occasionally require equipment and/or plant operation along with labor.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Supervise, evaluate, coach, and motivate personnel supervised.
  • Manage the workforce assigned to the plant daily.
  • Direct work at plant locations and job sites.
  • Maintain quality assurance of the plant as required.
  • Perform routine plant maintenance.
  • Control expenditures and maximize profits for the plant.
  • Control and maintain inventory levels.
  • Assist in the batch of concrete and maintain the plant.
  • Routinely inspect vehicles and equipment and report repairs as needed.
  • Assist with accident, incident and environmental investigation/compliance.
  • Complete all paperwork and reports required by the company in a timely manner.
  • Issue discipline at the direction of the General Manager and Ready Mix Manager.
  • Review time cards and monitor attendance.
  • Adhere to and positively communicate all company policies.
  • Demand forecasting and federal Agency compliance.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), class A or B, is preferred.
  • Five years of increasing responsibilities with Ready Mix or similar duties within aggregate, asphalt or construction operations.
  • Experience with quality control of ready mix concrete.

Work Requirements

  • This position directly supervises ready mix equipment and operations.
  • Communicate with customers, dispatch and other company departments as required to assure the safe, accurate and timely delivery of company products and service.
  • Communicate with Management on any subordinate commendations, disciplinary actions, operational deficiencies, QC issues, productivity issues or unusual purchase requirements.
  • Schedule PTO, and communicate unexcused absences and tardiness to Management. Prepare incident reports as appropriate.
  • Verify, review and approve daily timecards and production purchases. Ensure all timecards and invoices are forwarded to the office in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate accident/incident information to Management immediately. Verify completion of accident/incident reports and assist the Manager with accident reports and investigations.
  • Review and analyze productivity reports for continual operational improvements. Conduct designated performance appraisals. Compile, verify and record accurate production, QC, purchasing, inventory, and best practice reports as necessary.
  • Reflect a professional appearance and attitude with all work related activities. Encourage professional attitudes and appearances with all subordi ate employees. Maintain positive professional relationships with all customers and employees.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with customers and company personnel.
  • Ability to supervise and control personnel to accommodate customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a problem solver.
  • Ability to make good judgement calls when under pressure.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to understand maps.
  • Ability to perform mathematical functions pertaining to billing, volumes, quantities, etc.
  • Must have, or acquire, good computer skills in order to operate batching, billing, and communication equipment.

Physical Requirements

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
