Service Source Drafter CAD Operator IV in St Louis, Missouri

Job Summary

Performs progressively complex technical engineering office or field activities on base operating support contract (BOSC) projects using a variety of computer programs; makes office and/or field technical engineering computations, maintains records and reports, develops building information models; and performs related duties as required.

Primary Duties

  • Works closely with design originators, preparing drawings or computer models of unusual, complex, or original designs that require a high degree of precision Provide printing and reproductions of CAD drawings.

  • Interpret AutoCAD files, confirm existing facility measurements, and assist in the Development of Building Information Models using REVIT and other engineering application programs.

  • Transfer existing historic facility drawings into an electronic file format and implement the process for archival into electronic system.

  • Manage and maintain in-house facility drawings, including all building floorplans, 3D models, and associated disciplines. This includes implementing as built / new work changes to master site facility drawings to maintain accuracy.

  • Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent.

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Although working primarily as a drafter, this worker may occasionally interpret general designs prepared by others to complete minor details, may provide advice and guidance to lower level drafters or serve as coordinator and planner for large and complex drafting projects.

  • Using computerized drafting programs, prepares construction drawings of varied maintenance, repair, and BOSC construction projects.

  • Creates, updates, and inputs data into various computer programs; analyzes data.

  • Issues permits and assists in determining that all legal and technical requirements for construction contract documents are met.

  • Performs new ACAD and REVIT development on site that is not subcontracted outside of our organization.

  • Management of facility documents for three campuses and maintains / supports an automated / manual Document File Retrieval process.

  • Communicate requested site information to all approved stakeholders of a given project.

  • Performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and rafting expertise.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s )

  • High school diploma or state certified equivalent is required.

  • Completion of a multi-year computer aided design training program; OR Completion of an Associate of Arts degree in civil engineering technology OR two (2) years of college work in a civil engineering curriculum, OR 24 units of college course work in algebra, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, land surveying, soil mechanics or other related course work may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year of the total required experience. Course work must reflect good performance and must be approved by the Human Resources Department.

  • Must possess a valid Missouri or Illinois driver license.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI government security clearance with polygraph is required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of drafting instruments, materials and techniques; materials, methods and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of facilities and related structures; and, personal computers and relevant technical engineering application programs.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications; maintain engineering notes; perform required drafting and assist in the preparation of designs, plans, estimates, reports and specifications; take independent action and follow through on assignments as required.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to frequently stand, walk and sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and, in some instances, hearing protection must be worn in high noise areas . While most of the positions work primarily indoors in an office environment, depending on position and/or assignment, incumbents may be required to work outdoors and occasionally be exposed to inclement or hazardous conditions requiring moderate to heavy physical activities.
