Robert Half Director of Plant Operations in St. Paul, Minnesota

Description

This position will oversee all aspects of daily plant operations with a focus on providing strategic direction, ensuring the plant operates efficiently, meets production targets, and maintains strict compliance with safety and quality standards. Ideal candidate brings strong technical capabilities, excellent team leadership qualities, and experience managing production schedules to meet customer demands.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and oversee all aspects of daily operations with a focus on production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet production goals and optimize efficiency.

  • Coordinate and manage production schedules to meet customer demands, optimize inventory, and minimize downtime.

  • Monitor production metrics, analyze data, and implement corrective actions when necessary to address any operational challenges or deviations from targets.

  • Increase production and assets capacity while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards.

  • Provide direct leadership to multiple department heads, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and effective communication across all teams to achieve operational goals.

  • Lead efforts to develop and train plant staff, focusing on building a high-performing team capable of meeting operational demands.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align production goals with overall business objectives.

  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.

  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, quality, and safety; implement continuous improvement initiatives based on findings.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve plant performance, streamline processes, and reduce production costs while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Manage plant budgets, control costs, and implement cost-saving measures while maintaining quality standards.

  • Identify opportunities for technological enhancements and investments to improve operational efficiency.

    Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in plant management, preferably within the agriculture industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Food Science, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of technical software systems; experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is highly preferred.

  • Experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, or Six Sigma is a plus.

  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and lead large teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of implementing operational improvements.

  • Thorough knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to the agriculture industry.

  • Familiarity with production management software and equipment used in meat packing or food processing facilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
