Minnesota Housing is hiring! We’re a mission-focused financial institution looking for a closing Legal Technician. In this role you'll immediately make a difference by working with Closers and Attorneys to help ensure timely and accurate multifamily closings. You’ll be drafting loan documents, contracts, grant agreements and processing monthly construction draws. Your work will ensure that all transactions close on a timely basis to meet Minnesota Housing's goal of safe, affordable housing for all Minnesotans.

Essential Job Duties

  • Work closely with Closers and Attorneys to draft loan documents for closings and loan servicing transactions.

  • Assist construction compliance officers with closing draws, construction draws and Davis Bacon Monitoring

  • Process plans and specs for the closing team by reviewing architect’s opinion letter, construction contract and specifications and drawings for consistency to prepare the plans and specs exhibit to the Minnesota Housing loan documents.

  • Track and process Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) continuations

  • Provide administrative support to Closers, Architects, and Construction Compliance Officers (i.e., data entry, scanning, etc.)

  • Review and provide comment and resolution on due diligence documentation.

  • Answer questions from borrowers, attorneys, real estate agents, lenders and title insurance companies regarding Minnesota Housing Finance Agency policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate closing events with external customers and internal staff to ensure successful and timely completion of closings and loan servicing transactions.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills with a motivation to maintain customer satisfaction and to contribute to the success of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.   • Two (2) years of experience providing legal administrative support work or administrative support experience in the real estate and/or loan servicing industry. A paralegal associate degree or certificate may substitute for six months of experience.

  • Strong attention to detail including proofreading and typing skills.

  • Proven problem-solving skills sufficient to resolving title and recording issues.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to comprehend and communicate complex information in plain language.

  • Experience drafting or reviewing legal documents.

  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook sufficient to format documents using templates, creating and formatting spreadsheets and scheduling and managing appointments.

  • Cultural competency as demonstrated by skills for communication and interaction across cultures and awareness of one’s own world view and that different world views exist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Paralegal or Legal Assistant degree or certificate.

  • Experience with the preparation and processing of monthly construction draws in accordance with draw schedules, collection of lien waivers and other documentation, and disbursing of funds for construction loans.

  • Math skills sufficient to calculate the total amount of funding sources and costs associated with closing and loan servicing transactions.

  • Experience in multi-family affordable housing.

Physical Requirements

Requires moving office items such as file folders and small office tools.
