The Opportunity

This position works out of our St Paul, MN location, supporting our Structural Heart (SH) team, with heavy travel to support our SH customers and therapy process in the field. Our Structural Heart business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease.

As the Manager of Therapy Development, you will represent Abbott and be responsible for optimizing patient selection, pre-procedural planning, peri-procedural medical management, and supporting implant procedures during the clinical trial stage for the New Ventures or Structural Heart Divisions. This position requires significant expertise in transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) therapy to develop innovative approaches to improve TMVR outcomes, as well as provide training and procedural guidance to physicians when implanting investigational transcatheter mitral valve devices. This position also has responsibility for developing research partnerships with clinical sites.

What You’ll Work On

  • Demonstrate expertise in aspects of device implant, therapy, and troubleshooting techniques for transcatheter mitral valve replacement to deliver positive patient outcomes.

  • Establish and strengthen physician relationships to build strong research partners

  • Oversee development of new patient screening/selection methods, pre-procedural planning processes, procedural implant support methods, and peri-procedural medical management training, including refining/updating existing training materials, as requested.

  • Recognize and proactively communicate with team members opportunities to improve the organization and device or therapy.

  • Train physicians, support staff, and research personnel on screening methodology, pre-procedural planning, peri-procedural medical management, investigational device use, implant techniques, and clinical trial protocols.

  • Coordinate communication with internal and external customers to facilitate efficient and compliant clinical trial execution.

  • Support product development by contributing clinical knowledge to product design and performing in-vitro and /or in-vivo device evaluations.

  • Establish and cultivate an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.

  • Participate in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing training and guidance, and offering counsel.

  • Initiate and follow-through on tasks, collaborate across different functional groups, and extend your role beyond the specified requirements of the Manager of Therapy Development role to identify opportunities for improvement throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in the sterile environment with interventional cardiology or catherization lab experience.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in developing patient screening, pre-procedural planning, and/or peri-procedural patient management for transcatheter procedures; 7-8 years preferred.

  • Deep expertise and working experience reading and interpreting medical imaging (computed tomography, fluoroscopy, and echocardiography) required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, interfacing with multiple individuals, including physicians, support staff, and sales personnel, in order to effectively build relationships with external customers and internal team members.

  • Exercises expert judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Excellent presentation skills; ability to present technical and clinical material comfortably.

  • Proficiency in computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office and image analysis software.

  • The ability to travel extensively (approximately 60-70%) with the flexibility to easily switch roles between the clinical environment supporting the implant procedure and working cross-functionally within the organization to execute the clinical trial.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) preferred.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
