Department Overview

The Legal department’s primary mission is to: (i) provide advice that supports business unit efforts to pro-actively manage and mitigate litigation and regulatory risk; (ii) oversee litigation and regulatory enforcement matters; and (iii) assist in the execution of business transactions.

Job Summary

Raymond James Legal is seeking a current Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant Studies student for a part-time Paralegal/Legal Assistant opportunity for Spring Semester 2025. Under general supervision, the Paralegal/Legal Assistant uses skills gained through training and experience to assist with projects related to a variety of general litigation, corporate governance, and regulatory reporting and support tasks.  The Paralegal/Legal Assistant follows established procedures to perform tasks and receives general guidance and direction to perform other work with substantial variety and varied complexity, with latitude for independent thinking and problem solving.  Some judgment is required to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to apply to more complex assignments and provide unique solutions. This role resolves routine questions and problems and refers new or unusual issues to a higher level. Routine contact with internal and external customers may be required to obtain, clarify, or provide facts and information.

This is a temporary role.

Work Schedule: Part-time; Spring Semester; Monday through Friday, up to 20 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Specified projects and varied assignments.

  • Research, compile information and assist in preparing responses to regulatory authorities.

  • Draft standard legal and business communications in support of attorneys and paralegals, prepare legal documents and other correspondence both with and without attorney supervision.

  • Provide legal and administrative support services in connection with Raymond James’ entity management and corporate governance processes and systems.

  • Perform fact gathering and basic legal research with LexisNexis, WestLaw, and other resources.

  • Coordinates with various internal partners to obtain information for research and analysis.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of

  • Fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a professional office environment.

  • Laws, legal codes, precedents, and government regulations.

  • Intermediate level concepts, practices and procedures of the paralegal profession.

  • Principles of banking, finance, and securities industry operations.

  • Fundamental corporate governance with a regulated entity.

Skill in

  • Operating standard office equipment and using, or have the ability to learn, required software applications.

  • Assembling and organizing legal documents.

  • Gathering, maintaining, and organizing information and large volumes of documents.

  • Preparing routine legal documents, correspondence, memos, letters, and reports.

Ability to

  • Maintain professional discretion and strict privacy and confidentiality.

  • Read, comprehend, and apply legal information.

  • Manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements

Education/Previous Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistant Studiescertificate, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university.

  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

  • None required.
