Position Overview Antilles School seeks an experienced teacher with expertise in supporting students with mild to moderate learning differences to partner with other resource and counseling staff in the Learning Resource Program. This is a faculty position with a 10.5 month contract. The Learning Resource Program serves students in grades 6-12 with mild to moderate learning differences who are experiencing difficulty with school success. The program features inclusion, stand-alone classes, peer tutoring, and after-school study assistance led by the resource teacher who also provides up-to-date information on current research, trends, and best practices to classroom teachers and parents. The Resource Teacher builds the capacity of the school to teach academic skills, foster intellectual habits, nurture a growth mindset, and cultivate a strong culture of achievement for all students. The Resource Teacher is an active member of the Student Support Team, develops and manages modified educational plans, behavior improvement plans, and other student support initiatives, liaising with teachers, school counselors, and external professionals as needed. As a teacher, this individual must create a flexible educational program and friendly learning environment that provides specialized instruction and learning activities in order for students to benefit from their educational experience to the greatest extent possible. The Learning Resource Program Teacher has excellent interpersonal, communication, and technology skills. A successful candidate possesses high emotional intelligence, has the ability to work independently, and the ability to forge effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external constituents. An understanding of, and a commitment to, a culturally and ethnically diverse population is essential. Key Responsibilities Works with students, teachers and other faculty to create strategies that promote a greater chance of academic success. Implements intervention and advising strategies for teachers and students alike. Addresses student challenges relating to time management, lack of motivation, academic deficiencies and issues with goal setting. Helps students develop learning preferences for more effective studying. Assists teachers with preparing students for standardized testing. Helps teachers and other staff in the identification of students who would benefit from intervention. Utilizes effective tutoring to help students correct their challenges with learning. Establishes positive relationships between students, teachers, parents/guardians, directors, counselors and others in order to ensure a collaborative effort.
